Description:

Kautz Creek offers not only an excellent snowshoe excursion but also a chance to experience the geologic history of Mount Rainier. The trail is wide and easy to follow. The early section may be thinly covered in snow some years, so you might have to begin the outing with your snowshoes attached to your pack instead of your feet. However, the trail climbs steadily, and the snow is generally deep enough to require snowshoes well before the footbridge is reached at the 1-mile mark.

Additional Notes/Directions:

East from Tacoma, WA on SR-7, follow signs to Mt. Rainier.  Enter the national park at Nisqually entrance and proceed 3 miles to parking lot on right.
